New Realities: New Community Organizing

Overall Theme:  Facing the challenging economic realities, community organizing is changing in
significant ways.  There is potential for building social justice not just between now and 2012, but
beyond.  We’ll look at some innovative work that incorporates new organizing strategies and structures,
and consider how we as funders can build the long-term vision to resource the emerging directions of
new community organizing.

The program highlights two areas of work with clear new strategies and structures that have the potential
to transform the field:
1.        Thinking big structurally and addressing problems beyond policy fixes: Organizing to
fundamentally transform banking
2.        Building low-income leadership and campaign development at the state level
