October 15-16, 2008
Minneapolis, MN
How does the intersection of faith, race, and immigration in Minnesota redefine place-based
development, regional equity and civic participation? Strategize with local and national colleagues on
how to integrate these factors into effective grantmaking strategies. Through interactive sessions and
site visits in key Twin Cities communities undergoing change, the critical relationships that allow
collaboration between different paradigms and constituencies will come into focus. See brief agenda
attached.
Join grantmaking colleagues to learn about:
• Development and Organizing: Race and Immigration in the Historic Harrison Neighborhood
• Civic Participation, Integrated Voter Engagement and Immigrant Integration in Minnesota
• Transportation and Infrastructure Equity and the Central Corridor Light Rail Development
• Local and National Funders Aligning Multiple Funding Strategies and Interests
The Minnesota context will be set by funders, including the McKnight Foundation, and local organizing
groups working together to weave strategies, issues, and power to shape development opportunities
into investments that benefit low-income people and the communities in which they live. Featured
speaker MN State Senator Mee Moua will provide unique perspective on creating Minnesota’s
progressive future: the issues, civic participation and role of immigrant communities.
Expect diverse networking, as several funder affinity groups, in partnership with key local
organizations, have collaborated on this event in order to break down the walls of issue silos and
geographic barriers: Interfaith Funders, Minnesota Council on Foundations, Grantmakers Concerned
with Immigrants and Refugees, Funders’ Committee for Civic Participation, and the Funders’
Network for Smart Growth and Livable Communities
