What Others Say About Mike Miller’s Work

"Since Mike Miller's college days at Berkeley in the 1950s, there has hardly been an issue that has had to do with social and economic
change that has not at some point been the occasion for his rallying the troops...He has been called a disciple of the late Saul Alinsky,
self-professed 'professional radical' and the legendary pioneer in this field of political action.  Miller would be the first to admit this
relationship..."

"When An Activist Turns 40," Blake Green, SF Chronicle, October 15, 1977.

"Jose Molina is working in Miami, Florida to build All People's Neighborhood Organization.  A veteran organizer, he says the training
Miller provided was 'like a new light, a new avenue...He gave me a refresher on basic dynamics, but also a broader scope on
economic issues.'"

"Training Organizers for the Future," Judy MacLean, In These Times, August 3-9, 1977

"He is  Mr. Community Organizing.  He's done marvels.  It's amazing to watch him do it."

Hon. Thelton Henderson, former Chief Judge, US Federal District Court, in SF Examiner, June 22, 1992

"I have had the opportunity to attend many trainings and seminars aimed at changing our unions.  To date, OTC's approach is the
only one that provides a concrete way to achieve this goal."

Nancy Wohlforth,Secretary-Treasurer/Business Manager,Office & Professional Employees Union Local 3

"The support of ORGANIZE Training Center and of Mike Miller has been of inestimable worth to Christians Supporting Community
Organizing...Mike's own commitment to learn about the evangelical, Pentecostal and holiness traditions as one from outside those
traditions--their social justice past, their disturbing present directions, their potential future, their theological issues--has motivated us
to learn more about our own traditions and to look at them afresh...Mike has been a significant mentor to me in refining my thinking
and actions in community organizing, and in doing so has taught me a lot."
Rev. Dr. Robert Linthicum, Executive Director, Partners in Urban Transformation

"The experience has brought much insight into the obstacles of building community and how to overcome them.  I would see it as an
essential part in the formation of ministers and lay people and open them up to the larger community."

Fr. Rudolfo Vega, O.P., Director, Office for Hispanic Affairs, Catholic Diocese of Tucson

"As a pastor, the workshop challenged me to go beyond spiritual individualism to unite with others who want to move their faith into
action."
Rev. Richard Turner, District Superintendent, United Methodist Church, Nebraska

"The Project for Labor Renewal is one of the efforts known to our office that is seeking to work with union
locals to bring about organizational transformation.  Nothing could be more important for the labor movement."
Bill Fletcher, Jr., Special Assistant to AFL-CIO President John Sweeney; former Education Director, AFL-CIO

"Mike Miller exploded into my life on October 8th.  I was one of 26 fortunate members of the Portland Organizing Project who,
along with others from as far away as Colorado and Arizona, attended a four-day training session in community organizing at Holy
Rosary Church here in Portland.  I say Miller exploded into my life because despite his small stature, he emits a powerful energy and
ran an intensive seminar."
"Organizing Project Wins High Praise," Bea Sandberg, Portland Organizing Project News, Winter 1987

"The workshop is a must for anyone who is an organizer..."
                      Mariko Yanigahara

"The workshop has given me a completely new idea of how churches can and need to be organized.  I have always felt I had the
organizational aspect of church life down very well, but the new understandings I have gained here will be most helpful in the years
to come..."

Wallace G. Riches, Pastor, Hillsdale United Methodist Church

"OTC is exactly what is needed to help people who would like to see real changes happen in their community, their country or the
world.  It is the link between 'foot on earth and head in the stars'.  I highly recommend this workshop to minority leaders and
organizers willing to help empower their communities."

Gary Younger, President, Portola Merchants Association

"This workshop in its design has allowed us to develop a wonderful support system.  It helps me to go back and feel that what I
want to do...is something that is needed and important."
Jean Marie Montes, Head Organizer, Association of Haitian Workers
