October 2, 2009: Gamaliel Foundation President Ann Smith condemns the intentional distortion of a video of
interfaith prayer by several media outlets and bloggers, criticizing the "illegitimate" misinformation, and calls on Lou
Dobbs, Glenn Beck and others to apologize to the clergy and congregation members involved.

October. 22, 2009: (Walla Walla, WA) Alinsky symposium sparks topics of community activism and organizing at
Whitman college, on the centennial of Saul Alinsky's birth. Saul's son Dave and others noted the valuable

September 30, 2009: (Minneapolis): Over 100 funders, social justice organizers and allies attend release event of
Strengthening Democracy Increasing Opportunities report on how 15 Minnesota organizations leveraged foundation

August 19, 2009: (Nationwide): An estimated 140,000 people, including thousands from the PICO network, were on
a historic national faith community conference call on health care reform with Pres. Obama. Drawing on the moral
imperative of the faith traditions, the gigantic online Action called on Congress to pass health insurance reform this

August 11, 2009: (50 US Cities) the PICO National Network kicked off the "40 Days of Health Care Reform" with a
national action of 50 prayer rallies in 18 states reaching over 100 members of Congress, and in partnership with
Faith in Public Life and other allies, launched an ad campaign featuring PICO leaders. Find out more
August 1, 2009: (Kansas City, MO) Faith and community leaders from Communities Creating Opportunity (PICO)
and National Peoples' Action affiliates GRO and Sunflower Community Action presented a joint platform to Federal
Reserve representations, calling for lending and foreclosure reforms, as part of a national series of community
